Having a vision and a plan is more predictive of both success and satisfaction in school and in life than any other factor-including intelligence, socio-economic background or education."
Making decisions about college and what to do after graduating are often among the most perplexing and most expensive that students have to make.
Answering questions such as "Which University environment would be best for me? Should I attend a small liberal arts college, a technical school, or a large University? Should I major in history, science, business, engineering, pre-law?
Quite often these very important decisions are made with less rational input than is used in buying a car, but with far higher potential costs. School grades, standardized scores and "gut" feelings do not take into account the many important factors that should be considered in making these decisions.
Do you know the answers to these questions?
• Do you know what your innate, natural talents and abilities are?
• Do you know what field of study would best utilize your natural talents?
• Do you know how you learn best and solve problems?
• Do you know what work/study environment is right for you?
• Do you know what your goals are?
• Do you know what you really feel would be worth doing in life?
• Do you know your interests and what you really enjoy doing?
My Assessment For Students
I use The Highlands Ability Battery as a foundational process to help you answer these questions. This unique assessment process uses worksample testing to identify your innate talents and abilities. The information gleaned from the assessment then can be used not only to maximize success in school, but also in finding a meaningful and fulfilling career direction after graduation.
I also have you take the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) which is a self report type instrument that measures personality types and their relation or fit to different types of careers and college majors. The Highlands Ability Battery is taken online at your home computer and results are available upon completion along with a 30+ page written report. The HAB takes about three and a half hours to complete, if taken all at one sitting. The MBTI questionnaire typically takes about 45 minutes to complete. When both have been completed we then sit down together (or meet by phone) for a two hour feedback conference to go over all the results and help integrate them into some viable career and/or university majors options.
Overall, this process is very pragmatic, starting from a look at innate abilities and personality type. This can help you create a personal vision that you can use not only in deciding on important career decisions now, but also in the future, when you come to other crucial turning points in life.
Research has shown that you are most likely to find satisfaction in doing not only what you enjoy, your interests, but in doing what you do best, using your innate talents and abilities. This systematic approach of objective assessment of innate abilities followed by exploration of the other factors critical for career success, personal interests, values, goals and personality empowers you to make intelligent decisions about your future based upon distinct and personal information about yourself.
